Hilton – Free, Donavon Frankenreiter

Free by Donavon Frankenreiter is actually from his self-titled debut album in 2004. A truly mellow, feel good song.

Free has aged well with advertisers. This track has been used in multiple commercials in the last couple years.

Hilton – Voila, Michael Tolcher

Hilton has been running these ads for a few years now. Michael Tolcher got the nod to run a couple different songs along with these animated commercials. Some of these ran during the 2008 Olympics.

Originally from Georgia – USA, Michael crafts a blend of acoustic melodies with touches of groove & blues.

Another great song from Tolcher is Speed Feels Better, also from this EP:

Top 500 Songs – Another Angle

After finding this article from The Rolling Stone Magazine (dated from 2004) and scratching off a few calculations – here are the musical artists with the most “impact” or presence on the top 500 list.

For instance, The Beatles have 22 songs in The Rolling Stone’s Top 500 Songs, as they should:

The Beatles
22
The Rolling Stones
14
Bob Dylan
12
Elvis Presley
11
The Beach Boys
7
Jimi Hendrix
7
U2
6
Prince
6
Led Zeppelin
6
James Brown
6

Mostly from the classic rock genre – this list of all time hits is pretty solid. The big challenge is to weigh the buzz of modern/current hits vs. the classics that have already stood the test of time. Life is never fair.

While it’s impossible to rank everything one by one and make everyone happy – the resulting top ten (above) is hard to argue with. The Beatles are in a league of their own. The Stones, Dylan, and Elvis are top notch just based on how they transformed music during their times.

The remaining musical artists are all great musicians – ranking them really boils down to personal taste.

Just an interesting way to breakdown a Top 500 Song list.

Here’s the Rest of the Best (Artists with 3 or more songs in the Top 500):

The Who
5

CSI, Season 8 – Grissom’s Overture, John Keane

Grissom’s Overture is a solemn ode that boosts the dramatic tension in this roller coaster scene from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

John M Keane had an early start in the entertainment business. At the age of 11 he performed (along with his brother Tom) on the Tonight Show in the 1970’s as the The Keane Brothers. Since then John has composed music for a number of television shows including CSI.

Interesting fact: As a recording artist, John played with some great musicians including Chicago, David Foster, Cher, and Michael Bolton.

Learn more about John M Keane via wikipedia or IMDB.

Unfortunately, Grissom’s Overture is not available as an individual track, but you might be able to get the CSI Soundtrack on Amazon, which includes a number of other songs composed by John M. Keane.

You can also check out more of his songs on Amazon as well.

HHGregg – Love Generation, Bob Sinclar

This HHGregg commercial features Peyton Manning as well as the internationally loved, Love Generation or Generación Del Amor by Bob Sinclar (not Bob Sinclair).  The ad only gives you a taste of the amazing guitar riffs that energize this track.

Bob (aka Christophe Le Friant) hails from Paris, France and is a DJ and music producer. See what he’s up to on MySpace.

Bob Sinclar is actually one of many pseudonyms that Le Friant has used over the years. The Mighty Bop and Reminiscence Quartet are a

He released Love Generation in 2005 – for the past few years Latin America, Europe, and Australia have turned it into an international anthem.

AT&T – You’re Supposed to Be My Friend, 1990s

This computer animated ATT commercial highlights the new-but-old features of a walkman phone from Sony Ericsson. The rocky, upbeat You’re Supposed to Be My Friend, plays throughout the ad. This particular version sounds slightly remixed – the original track is still very similar.

The 1990s consist of band members Jackie, Michael, and Dino.

They call Glaskow, England home, and you can find out more about their music at their website: 1990s.tv or MySpace.

Audi A4 – Notes of Progress

Amazing classical culmination. Interesting story behind this commercial. The music was soley created for the commercial and the full track is only one minute long (unfortunately).

Due to an overwelming demand from consumers, Audi made the track available for download on their site www.audiusa.com. You will need to watch the “Progress is Beautiful” series of commercials (2 total) – then you will be prompted with the option of downloading the commercials or the music.

The production music sounds similar to a mixture of The Beatles and possibly Enya

Hopefully Audi (and the composers) will consider rolling out a full track sometime in the future..

Enjoy this taste of music for now!

Levi’s – It Must Be Love, Madness

In this Levi’s commercial the expected “love story” isn’t quite what the audience gets. It Must Be Love helps set up the humorous ending.

From North London, England, Madness is best known for a number of songs released in the 80s. It Must Be Love is actually a remake of Labi Siffre’s 1971 version. Find out what’s new with Madness at madness.co.uk.
