Hailing from Portland, The Decemberists are a successful indie band. Primary songwriter, Colin Meloy, drew inspiration from an interesting source: a Japanese folk tale, The Crane Wife. It wasn’t until their aptly named album The Crane Wife that they attempted to capture that muse in their music.
